Buggy Whip Bakery is a family owned and operated business which began in 1995 by Lois St. Clair. Lois grew up on a farm near Pemberville Ohio where she began baking cookies, pies and biscuits in her grade school years from family recipes that dated back several generations. Lois continued to bake through her later childhood years. After graduating High School Lois attended nursing school, married and started her family.
After spending many years working as a Registered Nurse, and with needing a career change and the strong encouragement she received from friends, family and many of her patients (who she would treat with cookies from time to time), she decided to begin her bakery business. Operations began in her home where she provided baked goods for resale to several area business and had grown her business to nearly 100 regular customers in a short amount of time.
Her growing clientele forced her to outgrow her home facility. In 1999 Lois opened a store in downtown Bowling Green. Lois’ oldest son, Jason, assisted with baking and operating the Bowling Green for a couple years. He later took a position with a company which forced him to leave the bakery business. Lois’ daughter Jen, took some interest in the business. Jen coming from several years of sales experience, took over the retail side of the business helping sell product from the store, learned the wedding cake side of the business and eventually began cake decorating. Although business was strong in Bowling Green. Lois closed the Bowling Green location when her mother became ill. She moved operations closer to home so that she could be available to care for her mother.
Several years of change and growth has lead Buggy Whip Bakery to introduce it’s second location which opened fall of 2012 in Findlay. Jen, owns and operates the Findlay location while Lois continues to bake at the Wayne location. Lois’ husband and Jen’s dad, Roger retired and has now learned to bake cookies while Lois focuses mostly on baking cakes, cupcakes, pies, etc.
Lois takes great pride in using the best ingredients with ABSOLUTELY NO added preservatives.

We keep very busy at Buggy Whip! Mom and Dad participate in three farmers markets per week spring through summer. Our wedding cake business is through the roof and the Findlay location has taken off much quicker than we anticipated. We have realized the need to add bakers. My husband, Dave, now spends some time each week learning the techniques and recipes that Lois baked from. My step daughters have shown some interest in business. Madison who is 15 is learning the ropes working at the Findlay store a few hours a week and Meredith, only 10, has been very helpful coming up with some amazing ideas that have proved to be quite popular. Mere’s PB&J Cupcake has been quite a hit. If you haven’t tried it, it’s an absolute must!
